News / Mastitis: An Overview

Home News

Mastitis falls under the umbrella term of inflammatory conditions of lactating breast (ICLB). It affects up to ~20% of women that breast-feed.

Symptoms that are commonly seen include redness, inflammation, a mass felt near the areola, pain and change in milk supply.

Depending on whether an infection is occurring with mastitis, it’s important to get advice from your GP and/or lactation specialist.

Physiotherapy can be a useful tool to address inflammation and pain. We can provide education of feeding, posture, non-weight bearing exercises and ultrasound therapy treatment.
